Projects trying to convert waste to fuel are not new. But most of them either are not commercially viable or depend on a lot of pre-processing to convert the available waste to fuel.
I would like to mention two projects in India which have been able to cross the above hurdles and are getting rave reviews all over and can develop to be the technology the world will take notice of.
A Nagpur based couple (Alka Zadgaonkar and her husband Umesh Zadgaonkar) have set up a plant to convert plastic waste to fuel. The plant has been setup on the basis of the research taken up by Alka and the best part is that the fuel produced can also be used for use in vehicles (Now thats a very very good news). Although the fuel has been used to drive vehicles and has been found to be good enough to do that. As of now they are only supplying the fuel for use in Boilers and is it a surprise that all the fuel that they would produce for the coming years has already been sold out.
Another organization Sustainable Technologies and Environmental Projects based in Mumbai has also developed a technology for converting waste to fuel and has been getting global attention.
Now that is what I call clean and green technology. I am thrilled at this double delight, first that such wonderful technologies are coming around to save us from the mounds of plastic waste all around us and secondly that these technologies are being developed in India. We can become the pioneers in clean and green technologies and show the world a path to green living.
Kudos to the Zadgaonkar's and STEPS !!
